Current Favorite Products July 2016
I love helping women find life changing beauty products. I use everything from high end name brand cosmetics to drug store brands and anything in between. I would consider my personal collection to be boarder line hoarding and I may need to seek professional help one day to stop buying new makeup! I wanted to share what some of my current favorites are! Of all the makeup in my vanity I have been using these the most lately.
My current go to moisturizer is First Aid Beauty's Ultra Repair Cream. I have extremely dry skin all year long and this has helped me find balance. It is the first step in makeup routine after cleaning my face morning and night.
Makeup Tip: Always apply your moisturizer to wet/damp skin.
This year I was able to go to The Makeup Show in NYC and they had an AMAZING booth set up by Kat Von D Beauty. I was able to sample their Lock It Featherweight Primer and instantly fell in love. This is great for normal to dry skin types. It helps keep my foundation on all day and helps keep it from getting cakey. A little goes a long way with this product but I tend to use it all over my face and that is A-okay.
Makeup Tip: Apply primer before foundation but do not wait for it to dry completely. Applying your foundation to the face when it the primer is still a little tacky will help it go on smoother and more even.
I change foundations like the wind blows because I feel like my skin gets used to them quickly (this is most likely all in my head but hey it is what I do). My current favorite full coverage foundation is Double Wear by Estee Lauder. I do not recommend this foundation to be worn all year as it is very heavy but the coverage is awesome and it lasts all day.
Makeup Tip: You can thin your foundation out by adding a little moisturizer with it before applying it. I also like to add a liquid illuminator to mine to give me a glow!
I am was never an advocate of wearing concealer because I have a love hate relationship with them. However due to age, sun damage, and lack of sleep this is a necessary product now. My biggest gripe was that no mater what I did they always seem to crease on me. Yes this in partly because I am getting older, thank you for reminding me, but it also has a lot to do with how the product is applied and set. My current favorite concealer is Urban Decay's Naked Skin. I apply this product with the wand that it comes with but I always blend it out with either a Beauty Blender or a brush so that it is not too thick.
Makeup Tip: All areas where concealer is applied must be set with a powder or they will crease.
This leads me to my current favorite setting powder by Laura Mercier. I go between her translucent and her brightening powder but love and recommend them both. They are milled so fine that they glide over the skin like silk and set all liquids without a thick caked on look. I also dust the translucent lightly over my lids to set my shadows.
Makeup Tip: In my opinion the best way to set with this powder is to use a damp beauty blender. It leaves the skin smoother than applying it with a brush even if your skin is dry.
Now onto the serious stuff: Brows.... This is a very sensitive subject for me as brows are "my thing". When I do not fill in my eye brows I often get asked if I am sick or feeling okay. Yes I am fine, I just did not have time to fill in my brows today but thank you! I think that I have purchased almost every brand that Sephora and Ulta carries, version of brow pencil on the market. I have had some good outcomes, and I have had some Groucho Marx outcomes. When it comes to brows less is more, but sometimes you cannot help yourself and pull a Dory, just keep filling, just keep filling, filling! I would be lying if I said I have not done so in the past. My favorite pencil hands down is Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Chocolate.
Makeup Tip: When you use brow pencils small strokes are key. Do not attempt to underline your entire brown in one long stroke as you are setting yourself up for a brow fill over load.
Last but not least I am going to share with everyone my life long friend and favorite brand of mascara. I have to say that I do have nice lashes, they are pretty long and full for the most part but I do like to throw on falsies regularly. I have also tried almost every mascara on the market from the super duper expensive $50 a tube to the cheap drug store brands and I can not give up on my old pal Maybelline Full N' Soft. It never cakes, it lasts all day, my lashes never look like spider legs, and if I forget to wash it off at the end of the night my lashes stay soft and do not break the next day. What else does one need in a $6.99 product? If it is not broken do not fix it! If they every discontinue this product I will cry.
Makeup Tip: This mascara will not be your favorite when you use it the first, second or third time. I feel as though it needs a little air to get the best effect. Once you use it and that wand gets in there and mixes the product up after a few uses I personally guarantee that you will love it, and if not well then more for me!
I hope that my tips and reviews on these products were helpful. If you would like to see more please comment below and I will start putting up reviews regularly.
